Great motions turn a good Cheerleader into a wonderful Cheerleader? Why do a lot of people make it at tryouts and others don't? When you're watching that awesome squad on TV, what makes them stand out and look like the picture of perfection?

You Need Basics!

Good, most of  these questions might be answered with "they know the basics. " Sure, a marvelous jump or stunt may wow a crowd, but when you are careless or lazy within your fundamental Cheerleading skills including motions, you're sure to shed points on any judging metal sheet.

Motions are one in the basic foundations of Cheerleading and a essential skill all Cheerleaders should master and much more importantly keep mastered. So, whether you're a starting point Cheerleader just learning or a skilled one whose picked " up " some sloppy habits, make contact with the basics, follow these tips and put the magic within your motions.

Tips on Exercises:

  •  Sharp 'n Snappy – We've probably almost all heard this before when with reference to motions, but what will it truly mean. It means your arms needs to be stiff and your muscle tissue tight. Your transitions needs to be smooth, snappy and rapid. You should punch your current motions out with plenty of strength.
  • Never bend your own wrists – Your wrists shouldn't be bent, cocked or from alignment with your biceps and triceps.
  •  Elbows – If you're in an extended motion, your elbows needs to be locked.
  • Arm placement – Your arms should always be slightly before you and level. Know where the spot is to kick a motion and don't settle for anything else than in which spot. Again, keep your own arms stiff and muscle groups tight. Don't let your own arms bounce or jiggle.
  • Shoulders – Your shoulders needs to be relaxed and not raised up like in the shrug.
  •  Fists – Know in what direction your fist needs to be facing (Examples: In a top V your thumbs needs to be facing towards the guests. In a Touchdown your thumbs needs to be facing away from the crowd). Always keep your own thumb outside your fist. If ever in doubt, ask your own coach.
  • Transition -Take the shortest distance into the next motion and wait until the final second to make it. Move quickly and exactly.
  • Synchronize your motions – Your motions should correspond with all the syllables of the words within your cheer/chant or the count of one's dance routines and tricks.
  • The clap or even clasp motion – This simple motion is normally overlooked. Your hands needs to be under your chin, your elbows in tightly plus your fingers close together. The idea should look clean in addition to neat.

Exercises to improve Your Motions:

  • Arm Strengthening : Do arm strengthening routines like push ups and lifting weights. They offer some great methods to improve the strength within your arms and shoulders. Good motions are produced with strong arms.
