How Do I start Tumbling?
How do I start tumbling classes?
I get a lot of concerned questions from young people who want to join a gym to take part in gymnastics or tumbling classes.
Most of the questions revolve around a feeling that other people will look down on them because they have no skills.
This is a typical Tumbling question with the name removed :
| "Ok so i want to go to gymnastics or tumbling but i don't want to go there and be made fun of. I cant do any back flips or flip flops and i can barely do a round off. I want to really go! Tell me what to do I want to go but im scared ppl will make fun of me |
Tumbling and gymnastics should be fun but I know that being new can seem scary sometimes.
The last time that I looked no one was born with gymnastic or tumbling skills, even the best tumbler in your gym had to start some where and most likely they spent a few sessions falling around on the floor like the rest of us.
Every one starts at the beginning and takes one step at a time, tumbling is no different to anything else that we want to do in our life, we try and fail and try and try again until we get it right. The only way to fail is to stop trying or never to turn up.
Despite what you may be thinking most people in a well organized class are far too concerned with executing their own skills to care too much about what you may be doing.
Everyone Who Starts tumbling Classes Progresses at Different Speeds.
In all sports there are some people who have what is called "natural talent" they take to the sport easily and make rapid progress learning the basic skills faster than average. Then there are others who struggle and find things difficult but keep going, sometimes doing much better in the long run and going on to great things.
It doesn't matter what you can do now, all that matters is what you could do if you just take the first step.
